Waseda University Tennis Team, established in 1902 celebrated its 100^th Anniversary in 2003. It is the oldest collegiate tennis team in Japan.

The team has played an important role in Japan’s tennis for more than 100 years to date and has sent out many All Japan Champions and All Japan Collegiate Champions during that time. Among the Waseda players who competed internationally were Jiro Sato, ranked No.3 in the world in 1933 and a semifinalist at Wimbledon in 1932 and 1933 as well as Atsushi Miyagi and Kosei Kamo who won the US Doubles Championship in 1955.

Today, Waseda Tennis led by Coach Toshihisa Tsuchihashi, has approximately 60 players, male and female. Kosuke Naruse, 2005 Inter-collegiate men’s singles champion, Bunpei Sato, 2006 Inter-collegiate men’s singles champion, Yuuya Kibi, 2007 Inter-collegiate champion and Miki Miyamura, 2006and 2007 Inter-collegiate women’s singles champion are among them.

As a team, Waseda Men’s team has been the collegiate champion in 2005, 2006 and 2007. The Women’s team was the collegiate champion in 2006 and 2007.

Waseda Tennis Team is proud to be positioned as the strongest collegiate tennis in Japan while its members fulfill their stringent academic requirements.

Waseda was the first university in Japan to host a Men’s Futures Tournament and has continued with its involvement in 2008 as well. The university hopes for all collegiate players to pursue excellence not only domestically but internationally in the years ahead.
